Sometimes I fall off the face of Earth.

Wow, it's been a long time since I bored my reader(s) with what is going on in my world! Sounds like it is time for some UPDATES! They start with the most recent developments and go backward. Maybe that's weird, but I'm sure you'll get through it.

1). I will become an aunt this week! I am very excited, but unless something unexpected happens, I will be out of town for the birth -- boo! Expect a full report post-delivery.

2). Tomorrow I will be departing from Norfolk for Massachusetts. I will be visiting my big fat Italian family and attending an awards ceremony where my great-aunt, a two time Olympic gold medalist in swimming, will be honored posthumously. I hope to come back full of excellent lasagna, great fried clams, oysters, booze, and everything else I associate with New England (except tick borne diseases). If you are nice to me, I might bring you a present.

3). I thought I had a heart attack last week, but it turned out that my esophagus was just in spasm. Which hurts. A lot. Fortunately, I have incredible friends who make sure that I don't die when stuff like this comes up. So thank you to Liz and Phil -- what would I do without you?

4). I survived the PILA auction! It was a fabulous night of bidding, dancing, drinking, and eating tiny sandwiches. I met tons of really cool people (most of whom will not remember me in the future) and had a blast getting dressed up. In case you are interested, I wore a Laundry by Shelli Segal black halter dress with a low back and draped front; chandelier earrings; a vintage rhinestone cocktail ring; silver evening shoes; and wore my hair in loose curls. I'm so happy to know so many people now who I can party with at these events so I don't feel socially awkward for not being a law student!

5). UVA football: even when you lose, you win -- IF you're at Wild Wing Cafe with three super cool guys who are not put off by a woman who can eat her weight in JoJo's Red Dragon and enjoys giant bottled Bud Lights.

6). Halloween was one heck of an interesting experience. It started with me learning that sponge curling your hair isn't the fastest way to style it. Then I found out that you do not have to be an African American woman to enjoy a lovely and inexpensive red lip gloss called "Black Radiance". I wore an authentic vintage flapper style dress -- it was from the sixties, which at the time was a throw back to the twenties. I also found T-strap shoes at the last minute, in my size, for only four dollars! My accessories included a red and black feather boa and a red sequined long cigarette holder (fully functional, but kind of dangerous at such a crowded party). Once I was finally assembled, I assumed my character: Daisy Buchanan, of The Great Gatsby. I was escorted by Mr. Jay Gatsby himself. We took a bus ride to a magical place called The Farm. There, we stumbled down a long, long dirt road (which would have been much less painful in different shoes, or maybe if I was drunk), socialized with a number of very drunk law students who were pretty much the only good thing about the night, announced that we were having an after party, but then were too exhausted to follow through. Fortunately, so was everyone else, so we just gave them rides home instead. Anyway, it was a fun night and I hope Phil posts the pictures soon (hint hint, my love), but I never want to go down that dirt road again. "The Farm" is where feet in high heels go to die. Also they ran out of beer. WTF.

All in all, it was a great trip to Charlottesville. The house is finally shaping up, my cat is settling in nicely, I feel like I have friends, I know where to find a great sandwich within walking distance or via delivery almost 24/7, and I convinced some very surprised trash collectors to take some of our boxes (I was in my nightshirt and a Williams-Sonoma apron, and running at top speed... I might have looked a little funny).

Now all we have to do is survive Thanksgiving, finals, and Christmas break... and 1L year will be half over -- thank God!
